Revised August 2, 2008
In 2002, through the State of DE Public Access to Defibrillation (PAD) program,
each high school in DE received two Medtronic model LifePak 500 AEDs.
In 2006, each high school received a new Medtronic LifePak CR
Plus Express AED for each AED the school had. Per the PAD program, each high school returned the LifePak 500s
to the State's Office of EMS. The LifePak 500s were reburbished and reassigned to other organizations.
Created especially for the first person
at the scene of a sudden cardiac arrest, the LifePak CR Plus Express
defibrillator is the entry-level automated external defibrillator (AED) from
Medtronic. Per guidance from the PAD Program coordinator, the LifePak CR Plus Express will be placed in the school in
an accessible location that should allow retrieval within 3 minutes.
In the Spring of 2007, the Office of EMS was able to provide one Medtronic
Lifepak CR Plus Express AED to all the remaining public schools, and all the Charter Schools in the State.
In the Spring of 2008, the Office of EMS was able to provide an additional 103 AEDs to non-public
schools having more than 75 students, and to slected schools that had a need for additional AEDs.
As of July 1, 2008, all Delaware schools with enrollment of greater than 75 students
now have at least one AED.
