NATA Consensus Statement - Recommended  Guidelines On How To Prepare For and Manage SCA During High School & College Athletic Practices & Competitions

'National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) organized an Inter-Association Task Force of representatives from 15 national organizations, which included such fields as athletic training, cardiology, electrophysiology, emergency medicine, family medicine, orthopaedics, paramedics, pediatrics and sports medicine. 

On June 14, 2006, the executive summary of the “Recommendations on Emergency Preparedness and Management of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in High School and College Athletic Programs” consensus statement was issued in a press release.

New CPR & AED Guidelines - American Heart Association

In Decmeber 2005, the American Heart Association (AHA) issued new guidelines regarding AED equipment and CPR & AED training. Over the several months the AHA will revise their training program.  Until that time, present training and use of CPR and AED should continue.

FDA - ADD/ADHD and Heart Disease

On Feb. 8, the Food and Drug Administration publicly released a 2004 report that tied the sudden deaths of 25 people and the heart problems of 54 to stimulant drugs like Ritalin. According to the report, children accounted for 19 of the deaths and 26 of the serious heart-related problems.  For more details, please click on the link below.

For those of you who did not know Matt, he was diagnosed with ADD.  He did take Ritalin and Adderall for a few years.   Did this have an effect upon his heart?
